    Campania wines

The wine history of Campania is lost in the mists of time, truly different wine areas, from the island of Ischia to the mountainous areas of Irpinia passing through the heroic viticulture of the Amalfi Coast. Geographically, the cultivation of vines in Campania is favored by the presence of a surface that is over 50% hilly and over 30% mountainous. The lowland belt represents just 15% of the area of the region. A range of extraordinary white and red wines , among which the 4 DOCGs (Taurasi, Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, Aglianico del Taburno) and the 19 DOCs stand out, among which we want to mention Ischia doc, Costa d'Amalfi doc and Falanghina del Sannio doc. The ampelographic heritage of Campania is extremely rich, in particular of autochthonous grapes, recently rediscovered and valued, as they deserve, and from which the most interesting wines of the region come. Among the autochthonous white berried grapes of Campania are mentioned Asprinio, Falanghina, Fiano, Greco, Coda di Volpe, Pallagrello Bianco, Biancolella and Forastera. Among the autochthonous red berried grapes, Aglianico, which is joined by Piedirosso (known as Per'e Palummo, or Columbus' Foot), Sciascinoso, Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia. In short, a region to be discovered!
