Cabernet Franc

This vine certainly is related to Cabernet Sauvignon and is its usual partner above all in the so-called Taglio Bordolese, where it is blended together with Merlot. It is native to the Bordeaux area, but is widespread in many wine-growing countries of the world, for example throughout North America, in Chile and Argentina, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In Italy it is vinified alone with some success and appreciation in the Bolgheri area, in Tuscany and in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Cabernet Franc resists rather well to rigid climates and is earlier than Cabernet sauvignon, compared to which it is less tannic, in fact for this reason it is often used to give balance to wines. From a sensorial point of view, Cabernet Franc is one of the easiest red wines to recognize, in fact it is unmistakable with its smoky and peppery notes. Cabernet Franc is a grape very similar to Cabernet Sauvignon , with which it is related, but differs in being less tannic. It comes from France, more precisely from the Bordeaux area and in Italy it is mainly produced in the areas of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Tuscany.
