Catarratto

Behind such a complex and uncommercial name lies a vine with truly extraordinary potential. It has very ancient origins, it is present throughout Sicily , but its area of choice is in the western area, in particular in the provinces of Trapani, Palermo and Agrigento. It represents about 33% of the white grapes grown on the island. Furthermore, it has been definitively clarified that Catarratto gave rise to Grillo through crossing with Zibibbo . In purity it is not a very easy wine to find, also because unfortunately the cultivation of this grape was often abandoned in the past to be replaced with that of the most requested varieties on the market. In reality, vinified alone, it shines with a life of its own, and how! Still white wines produced with Catarratto grapes are generally fresh, of medium structure, with moderate acidity and alcohol content. Their aromatic profile is associated with citrus and floral notes, tropical hints of grapefruit and passion fruit with a touch of fine herbs and sweet spices. It has excellent sapidity and clear mineral sensations which can sometimes lead to a slightly and pleasantly bitter finish.
