Pinot Meunier is a red grape variety used mainly in the composition of cuvées with Pinot Noir and/or Chardonnay, in the production of Champagne . It is the least valuable compared to the other two and owes its name to the fact that the lower part of the leaf is colored with a floury white, which recalls the work of the miller (meunier). For a whole series of “technical” characteristics, champagne connoisseurs consider it an element of great balance to harmonize the cuvée of the assemblage champenoise. It has a recognized limit in the difficulty of ageing, which is why it is not included in the cuvées intended for vintages or in any case for sparkling wines to be refined over time. The champagnes obtained from Pinot Meunier do not show off powerful personalities, they are not particularly complex, they almost never require specific knowledge or great experience to be able to drink and appreciate them. And this, objectively, is anything but a limit.
