Description

The Recioto della Valpolicella Classico DOCG "La Roggia", from the Speri winery, is a straw wine, sweet, intense and velvety, with good structure and softness. The manufacturing company occupies an important place in the winemaking tradition of Valpolicella and the Veneto, by virtue of the authenticity of its products and the strong link with the reference territory. Only the grapes owned by the cellar are vinified and every single phase of the manufacturing process is taken care of. The climate is favorable for viticulture, thanks to the surrounding mountains which protect the hills from the cold winds coming from the north. This sweet wine is obtained from 70% Corvina Veronese and 30% Rondinella grapes, selected manually during the first weeks of October. The name "La Roggia" derives from the very name of the vineyard, located inside the orchard of Villa Giona - a historic Renaissance palace - on the south-eastern slope of Monte Sausto. After an indispensable drying of about 3 and a half months, in the fruit cellar, the bunches lose more than a third of their initial weight, with a considerable concentration of sugars which will characterize the taste of this wine. The must macerates and ferments in stainless steel tanks for about 1 month, before the wine is separated from the skins and transferred to large wooden barrels, i.e. 500-litre tonneaux. The subsequent maturation takes place in small barrels, or in barriques, for 24 months; an indispensable refinement in the bottle follows for a few months. Recioto della Valpolicella La Roggia is garnet red in the glass, the nose offers enveloping hints of raisins, violets and jam. On the palate and? warm and velvety, intense and full. We suggest serving it at a temperature of 16 °C. This sweet wine goes very well with desserts, especially dry pastries. Also indicated with dried fruit, chocolate and in combination with blue cheeses. It is an excellent meditation wine.
