The Salice Salentino Rosso Riserva DOC "50th Vendemmia" Leone de Castris is an Apulian red wine produced by the very ancient and award-winning Cantina di Leone de Castris. It was even born in 1665 and already from the early 1800s it was exporting wine to other European countries and the United States. Returning to the wine, this DOC red is produced in the municipality of Salice Salentino, which rises in a rural area in the north-western part of the Salento peninsula. The grapes from which this Salice Salentino is obtained are 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera. These are two very common vines in Puglia, where they were presumably imported by the Greeks in ancient times. The characteristics of this area of Salento are in fact ideal for wine production, thanks to the fertile clayey soils and a typically Mediterranean climate. The Salice Salentino Rosso Riserva DOC "50th Vendemmia" Leone de Castris, produced for the anniversary of the first harvest of the Salice Salentino, turns out to be a soft, structured, balanced wine, a wine that reflects the long aging in wood, where notes emerge intensely fruity and spicy.
