Ca' di Pian Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG is an intense and fragrant red wine made by the La Spinetta winery. It is obtained from the single-variety vinification of only grapes of the autochthonous Barbera vine. The vineyards are divided into three areas which have some common factors, such as marly and calcareous substrate and southern exposure. These elements offer the vines, which are even over forty years old, the perfect conditions for producing healthy bunches. Following a careful harvest, the grapes macerate on the skins and ferment in steel containers for 15 days. Malolactic fermentation and a year-long refinement follow: both phases take place in French oak barrels at the second and third passage. Finally, the process ends with a rest of three months in the bottle before release. Ca' di Pian Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG can be appreciated right away, as well as following a further 4-5 year refinement.
