A cellar with a particular history, a true dream born over the years and realized over time. From bricklayer to driver, to becoming the owner of one of the most important transport companies in North America. This is the story of Pierluigi Tolaini who in 1955, at the age of 19, emigrated to Canada, to Winnipeg, with a one-way ticket in his hand and a promise to himself: he would never be poor and above all that he would return one day to his Tuscany to make a great wine. Many years later, the dream came true in one of the most beautiful realities in the heart of Chianti Classico: in 1998, by purchasing the two plots of Montebello and San Giovanni, the adventure began and its first "Bordeaux" style bottles date back to 2005 , with Michel Rolland wine consultant. Land kissed by the sun and sheltered from the wind, where Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc also grow alongside Sangiovese. A very close-knit team and a deep respect for traditions are the cornerstones of the Tolaini philosophy, today as then. Unfortunately, Pierluigi left us in 2020, not without having seen the company that bears his name grow, with growing market and critical success. Pierluigi's courage and passion were inherited by his daughter Lia Tolaini Banville, also owner of a large company that imports Italian wines into the USA. With great tenacity and determination, she also follows the Castelnuovo Berardenga estate: fifty hectares of vineyards, located around the company, in a natural amphitheater that embraces the ancient central building from the 1600s. Over time, it was Lia herself who convinced Lia's father that terroir devoted to Sangiovese and, in 2008, the first Chianti Gran Selezione demonstrates that combining an indigenous identity with an "international" one is a winning idea. All the labels now see the consultancy of Luca D'Attoma and the oenologist Francesco Rosi, cellar manager: great results born from organic farming. A lot of dedication and a lot of passion for high quality production.
