Banfi

Banfi was born in 1978 thanks to the will of the Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani (founders of an important Italian wine distribution company in the USA) and the great intuition of Ezio Rivella, a great pioneer of Italian winemaking. From the beginning Rivella, supported by the two Mariani brothers, envisaged a large-scale project, integrating quality wine production with a large and above all modern cellar, with the aim of producing many bottles while always maintaining the quality level of the wines products. Ezio Rivella immediately predicted and believed that, due to the richness of the nature of the soil and the privileged microclimatic position, the territories of Montalcino would have great potential for development; we are talking about the early 70s, when in Montalcino there were probably no more than 30 wineries and today there are more than 250! Today Banfi is run by cousins James and Cristina, members of the third generation of the Mariani family, at the head of a company that produces 10 million bottles every year. Banfi is a real empire that expands in Tuscany for almost three thousand hectares , of which a third is dedicated to viticulture. The vineyards, as well as within the prized terroir of Montalcino, also extend into interesting areas of the Maremma, the Chianti Classico and then take flight towards Piedmont. A set of labels that combine the tradition of different territories with the experience of the cellar, creating prestigious bottles that are always in step with the times.
