Ciacci Piccolomini

The current Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona company was virtually born from the marriage of Alberto Piccolomini d'Aragona with Miss Elda Ciacci (family owner of the estates and the historic palace), but its roots date back to the 17th century. Giuseppe Bianchini inherited it in 1985 and began to develop new techniques for harvesting the grapes. The estate is located south-east of the municipality of Montalcino, on an area of approximately 220 hectares, 25% of which are used for Sangiovese vines (Grosso and Piccolo), but also Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah; the main production takes place in the vineyards called Vigna Contessa, Vigna Ferraiole, Vigna Colombaio and Vigna Egle. All the wines, except the fine labels, are produced in the Molinello cellar (which is also the company headquarters), built towards the end of the 90s, of 2500 square metres, inside which there are large 75Hl oak barrels. As regards Brunello di Montalcino docg, the company has reserved 8 hectares for the production of this special wine, derived from pure Sangiovese Grosso grapes. The PianRosso vineyard is the company's flagship; it extends for approximately 12 hectares on medium-textured soil and marl of Eocene origin and is located at an altitude between 250 and 350 meters above sea level. Thanks to the generation of particular selected Sangiovese Grosso grapes, the two flagship products are produced here: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG "Pianrosso" (aged for 3 years) and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva "Vigna di Pianrosso" (aged for more than 3 years and a further refinement of over 12 months in the bottle); both labels are aged inside the old historic 17th century cellar, located inside the old farmhouse.
