Conti Zecca

The Conti Zecca company represents one of the oldest wine-growing companies in Salento. The experience gained over the centuries in the wine field has yielded knowledge of the territory to which it belongs, with its potential and its qualities. Salento, in fact, is a portion of Puglia which, due to morphological characteristics, has always been a land suited to quality viticulture. The company's work begins in this context, aware of the adverse climate and the difficult composition of the soil. The noble family of Neapolitan origins, around 1500, decided to move to Puglia, precisely to Leverano, to embark on a new life path. As time passed, the descendants managed to purchase land holdings, such as to constitute a vineyard heritage unique in terms of location and extension. The turning point came in 1935, when Count Alcibiade Zecca launched himself into a new winemaking adventure: he decided to produce the wine himself from the grapes coming from his estates. It was the era in which Apulian wines were used as blending wines and their potential was not yet known. His choice, however risky, constitutes the basis for the commercial success of the Conti Zecca winery which, within a few decades, began to be noticed on the international wine scene. Numerous studies and research have been conducted to understand how to enhance the native Apulian vines. The varieties on which the company focuses are Negramaro, Primitivo, Malvasia Nera, Malvasia Bianca, Aglianico, Vermentino and Fiano. Today the Zecca Counts are ambassadors of Salento, producing some of the most appreciated and awarded white, red and rosé wines with the Leverano DOC denomination.
