Curatolo Arini 1875

Curatolo Arini 1875
Information
Region: Sicily (Italian wines)
Year of foundation: 1875
Address: Via Vito Curatolo Arini 5 91025 – Marsala

The story of the birth of Marsala is well known: in 1773 an English merchant, John Woodhouse, had to take refuge in the city of Marsala due to a storm at sea and he happened to taste the wine produced in the surrounding countryside. Being fascinated by it, he sent it to England (with the addition of brandy for the journey) and from there the great success of Marsala wine was born. Almost a century later, a winemaker named Vito Curatolo Arini decided to make a change to his production, founding a winery that is still at the forefront of the reference area today. The winery is located in the street of the same name in Marsala, in the most extreme part of western Sicily, and is still surrounded by the white grape vineyards which are also found in Contrada Biesina and Baiata, in the hinterland of Marsala, from which the wines are produced Inzolia and Catarratto wines; these vineyards face east and are planted on predominantly clayey and sandy soil. The production of Marsala is historic, but the company also has other strictly native vines, both for the production of red wines and white wines, which since 1970 have accompanied the historic and glorious Marsala.
