On March 5, 1914, in Amatrice, Emidio, Isidoro and Antonio Santarelli set up the “ Berardino Santarelli & Figli Company ”, which bears the name of the founder Berardino, wine merchant . In the following years, his three children moved to Rome, opening the first "Vini & Olii" in Piazza Capranica 99, in the heart of the city. Over the years, the company developed, opening another 11 "sales shops" in different areas of the city.
Dino Santarelli , Emidio's son, founded “Santarelli SpA” in Rome in 1955, dedicating himself to the bottling of typical Lazio wines, also exported abroad, in particular to Canada. In 1967, Dino Santarelli, fascinated by the Agro Pontino, created " Casale del Giglio ", in Le Ferriere, not far from the ancient city of "Satricum", in the province of Latina about 50 km south of Rome.
This territory represented, compared to other areas of Lazio and other regions of Italy, a new environment, all to be explored from a viticultural point of view.
In the same period, the “Vini & Olii” were sold, with the exception of the one in Piazza Capranica which, from a wine shop, was transformed into a restaurant, still owned by the family.
Starting from the 1990s, his son Antonio , following his father's intuition and making use of the collaboration of the young Trentino oenologist Paolo Tiefenthaler , developed an intense research and experimentation project, which led to notable results.
The wines of " Casale del Giglio " thus conquered, as the first, the Roman and Lazio markets, and then extended their presence nationally and abroad.
