Château Margaux

Château Margaux: a true institution in the world of wine. If we wanted to make an automotive comparison we could say: the Rolls Royce in a bottle! It is a property that has existed since 1100 (!), but since 1500 the owner Pierre de Lestonnac has been actively involved in the production of wines at the highest levels. At the beginning of the 18th century, the estate already had around 265 hectares, of which a third was dedicated to viticulture, an extension which roughly corresponds to the current one. From management to management, it was in 1810 that the Marquis of Colonilla Bertrand Duat ordered the construction of the castle which can still be admired today, but the most significant date is 1977 when the Greek magnant André Mentzelopoulos arrived who, with huge investments, calling in due to prominent professional figures such as the oenologist Emile Peynaud, he achieved the turning point towards absolute excellence. Subsequently, the company was managed by various owners (including the Agnelli family, in control of the majority shareholding) and is now once again entirely in the hands of the Mentzelopoulos family, with their daughter Corinne. We are in Margaux, a small village in the Medoc, in the heart of the Bordeaux area most suited to viticulture. The company produces various labels and has various estates, but absolute excellence is expressed by the Château Margaux with the denomination "Premier Grand cru classé"; according to the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855 it is absolutely the best and is shared only with 4 other companies of global caliber: Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. One thing is certain: every time you have the opportunity to uncork a bottle of Château Margaux it is an unforgettable event, which certainly doesn't happen often!
