Château Lafon-Rochet

Château Lafon-Rochet is a well-known winery in Bordeaux. Since the classification of 1855, the winery has been classified as Quatrième Grand Cru Classé (fourth position in the ranking). The estate is located in Saint-Estèphe, has an area of approximately 45 hectares, of which 55% of the surface is cultivated with Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% with Merlot and 5% with Cabernet Franc. The density of the estate is approximately 9,000 vines per hectare and it produces approximately 120,000 bottles of wine per year. The estate is managed today by Michel and Caroline Tesseron, while the management of the company is entrusted to the oenologist Jacques Boissenot. Like many areas of the Medoc, Château Lafon-Rochet's wine history dates back to the 17th century. The property was originally known as Domaine Rochet and belonged to Antoinette de Guillemotes. By marrying Étienne de Lafon, she was renamed Château Lafon-Rochet. In 1959, Guy Tesseron, a great name in cognac, took over the estate at a difficult time in Bordeaux. The estate only had 15 hectares, so it was decided to completely demolish the castle to obtain new spaces. In 1975, Guy Tesseron also took over Château Pontet-Canet and a few years later Château Malescasse. In 1999, Michel Tesseron and his sister Caroline Poniatowska dedicated themselves to Château Lafon-Rochet, while Alfred and his brother Gérard Tesseron took over the management of Château Pontet-Canet. Starting from the 2000 harvest, the canary yellow of the castle is included in the bottle labels. The Château Lafon-Rochet vineyard is a unique plot and is located opposite Château Lafite-Rothschild.
