The story of Gordon and MacPhail goes back a long way. In 1895, in fact, the company was just a resale in Speyside, the heart of the Scottish Highlands and the birthplace of whiskey itself. Flavors and aromas from all over the world found their place alongside the best Scottish spirits which James Gordon and Alexander MacPhail knew how to mix and mature artfully at the time to obtain refined and complex whiskies. The valid help of the salesman John Urquhart laid the foundations for the success of a company which, from the beginning of the 1900s to today, has always remained in the hands of the Urquhart family. Four generations of passionate connoisseurs of Scottish whisky, capable of offering excellent single malts appreciated and exported all over the world. The delicate balance between wood, spirit and time plays a decisive role. The Gordon & MacPhail team knows the character of each of the selected barrels in over 120 years of history, chooses which spirit is able to communicate with that particular wood and what the perfect moment for bottling is, transforming expertise into art. Gordon & MacPhail single malt scotch whiskey matures in European oak and American white oak barrels. If the first gives the whiskey intense and complex spicy hints, the second determines softer, finer and sweeter aromas. These are long-lived barrels, which have seen great Bourbons and Sherrys mature and retain memories of these. These, therefore, are the multiple factors that give rise to the vast range of Gordon & MacPhail whiskies. Spirits that can age for more than 70 years, such as the sophisticated Generations Glenlivet 1940 70 Years Old and Mortlach 75 Years Old bottled, respectively, in 2011 and 2015. Whether they show warm and enveloping notes of chocolate and nuts or citrus and floral hints, these whiskeys tell "the story of Scotch whisky", as they like to say at Urquhart.
