Whiskey, although traditionally Scottish, is not only produced there; Wales also has its centuries-old history but, unfortunately, the production of whiskey in these lands stopped in 1894 and it was the Penderyn distillery that resumed production by distilling the first bottle of whiskey in Wales after more than a century, in 2000. The Penderyn distillery produces, in its wonderful location, the only Welsh single malt whisky. Penderyn Distillery is located within the Brecon Beacons National Park, with its typical hills of wheat moved by the wind, creating a poetic undulating effect. In particular, the brewery is located about sixty kilometers south-west of Hay-on-Wye, in the small village from which it takes its name, Penderyn. It is the Welsh Whiskey Company, a consortium of entrepreneurs from the area, who founded the distillery which, after 4 years, presented its first bottle of whiskey in 2004, in the presence of Prince Charles, who is also the Prince of Wales. The resumption of distillation has been very successful and, to date, three different precious types of single malt whiskey are produced. In this regard, the distillery received the appreciation of experts, winning the "Gold Best in Class" award at the 2011 International Wines & Spirits Competition.
