Cascina degli Ulivi - Bellotti

“The farmer, for me, is the freest person there is, because he lives in the open air and has to do with plants, with the sky, with the rain, with the snow. Which man can feel freer than a farmer?”

Stefano Bellotti was speaking, owner of the biodynamic company located in the municipality of Novi Ligure, in the province of Alessandria. It was founded in 1977. In the 22 hectares of land owned, about ten hectares are planted with vines and about another ten are intended for the rotational production of wheat and fodder. Cattle and small farmyard animals are raised on the property and there is also a farmhouse where you can eat local specialties while tasting the wines from the cellar.

Stefano had dived into this fascinating project when he was just 18 years old and owned just one hectare of land and since then, with hard work and his passion for country life, he has made giant strides. The “Cascina” almost immediately embraced the organic method and in 1984 the biodynamic method; "herbarium green manure" is practiced in the vineyards, a natural system to make the soil fertile, limiting the use of chemical substances as much as possible. All the wines produced by the winery have the "triple A" brand and are Agrobiodinamica and Bios certified.

Stefano Bellotti had recently bought an old abandoned farmhouse, on the nearby hills, with 2 hectares of surrounding vineyards in which Timorasso, a typical vine of this region of Piedmont, was planted; here Stefano dreamed of creating a large agricultural-educational project to spread the culture and love for agriculture and viticulture, especially among young people.

Stefano left us in September 2018 at the age of 59... but his enlightened thought and his resistant action remain even stronger to those who continue his work.

Among the wines produced, we highlight the typical Piedmont vine, Cortese, vinified in purity: the Gavi “Filagnotti” and the Bianco “Simply wine”, two absolutely traditional and natural wines.
