Famille Bréchet

The territories south of the Rhone Valley have been cultivated by the Brechet family for many generations. The story begins with grandfather August who began cultivating vines and olive trees on a plot of approximately 10 hectares near the village of Gigondas. Subsequently, his daughter Juliette and her husband Gabriel Meffre continued this work with the same commitment, expanding the property both in the Côtes du Rhône, in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas appellations, and in Provence. Château de Vaudieu is one of the most prestigious areas of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and occupies approximately 70 hectares with a castle from the late 1700s and a mosaic of terroirs in which at least seven different geological structures can be identified. Red grape varieties such as Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise and black Terret are cultivated, but above all white grape varieties such as Grenache and to a lesser extent Roussane, Clairette and Bourboulenc. The wines produced on site age 15-18 months in barriques in an underground cellar. Among the most representative labels are Chateau de Vaudieu Blanc and Chateau de Vaudieu Rouge. Le Plateau des chênes is another possession of the Brechet family, recently acquired (2010). It is an alluvial plateau of the old course of the Rhone where red clays prevail and Syrah is mainly cultivated and Grenache Blanc to a lesser extent. Two wines are produced: Le Plateau des Chênes Rouge with 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache and Le Plateau des Chênes Blanc with 60% Grenache Blanc, 20% Roussane and 20% Clairette. The third land is located in Provence at the foot of the Maures massif and is characterized by clayey soils and long periods of drought. Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Rolle and Ugni Blanc are grown there which give life to the Cuveé Elisir Rosè and the Château de la Coulerette Rouge, other flagship wines of the company.
