The Nittardi winery has its estate in a very famous area dedicated exclusively to the production of wine; it is in fact located in the heart of Chianti, between the provinces of Florence and Siena. In the 16th century the estate, including a defense tower, belonged to Michelangelo Buonarroti who had "his Nittardi wine" sent to Pope Julius II as a "genuine gift". Since 1982 the company has begun to flourish again thanks both to a new marketing policy and to a gradual replanting of all the vineyards (with native and international grape species), but above all thanks to the extension of the properties in areas other than traditional leasing; In fact, in addition to those of the actual estate, Nittardi owns vineyards immediately south of Castellina in Chianti and south of Scansano, in the heart of the Maremma. The historic ones are located around the old tower and have an extension of approximately 9 hectares; they insist on clayey-calcareous soil at about 500 meters above sea level and face south. Here both the native Sangiovese di Toscana (from which the "Casanuova di Nittardi" wine is produced) and the international Merlot are grown: these vineyards produce the flagship wines of the prestigious winery. The winery works organically.
