Cattier
Information
Year of foundation: 1918
Hectares of vineyards: 30
Address: 6/11 rue Dom Pérignone - BP15 51 500 Chigny Les Roses - France

The history dates back to 1625, and probably even further, when the Cattier family began planting vines in Chigny-les-Roses, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims . Since then the winery has been passed down through 12 generations. Today, Alexandre Cattier , became the thirteenth generation of Cattiers to work the vineyards and the fourth to produce their own champagne when he took the reins of the company, together with his cousin Agathe, who became Assistant CEO, and Marie, the new brand ambassador. Under the leadership of Jean-Jacques Cattier, Cattier Champagne flourished thanks to the hard work, courage and audacity of the men and women of the family. Driven by a passion for wine and the land in which they work, each of them has contributed to making Cattier the brand it is today, dedicated to preserving and passing on inherited excellence. Most of Cattier's cellars are located beneath the family estate in Rilly-la-Montagne , where up to two million bottles can be stored. These cellars are more than a century and a half old and still bear the traces of those who took refuge there to escape the bombs of the Second World War. With 119 steps on one side and 136 on the other, these cellars are among the deepest in Champagne (almost 30 meters deep). Cellar depth has traditionally been measured in steps, a holdover from the days when builders had no more advanced methods of measuring it. Furthermore, they were excavated on three different levels, with three distinct arch styles: Gothic, Roman and Renaissance. These cellars offer the ideal conditions for the maturation of the bottles: a constant temperature and protection from any disturbance. Making the most of the cellar is one of the family's objectives, which is why the Brut Premier Cru spends more than four years there, even if the specification requires only 15 months. The most prestigious bottles, however, require more than 8 years of rest in the cellar to open and develop their unique aromas.
