The year was 1973 when Italo Zingarelli from Romagna, a successful film producer and distributor (with the legendary duo Bud Spencer and Terence Hill), decided to dedicate himself to his greatest passion: wine. After repeated research, he discovered the village called Le Macìe, located on a beautiful hill in Castellina in Chianti and, sure of having found the ideal place, he renamed it "Rocca delle Macìe". The term "macìa", in the local dialect, means a pile of stones: in fact, in the Chianti area, farmers extracted the stones, of which the soil is rich, and placed them in piles along the countryside. Recovery work began immediately and restoration with the aim of giving impetus to the agricultural sector with the planting of new vineyards and olive groves, typical crops of the Chianti Classico area that Zingarelli wants to valorise. It is curious to know that, at the time, the Macie property extended for 200 hectares,  but only 1 hectare was cultivated with vineyards! Work also began on the construction of a modern cellar, equipped with cutting-edge equipment which was then constantly renewed. 1978 saw the debut of Rocca delle Macìe wines on the market, immediately gaining acclaim in wine shops and restaurants. This success pushed the entrepreneur to purchase, in 1984, the Fizzano farm, already known for the ancient village dating back to the year 1000 and, naturally, for the excellent exposure of its vineyards. The following year, Sergio, Italo's son, joined the company and joined his father in management and in 1989 took over the general management. The objective is well defined: to create a range of wines capable of covering all the needs of the medium-high range of catering: this allows us to achieve, in a short time, important results both in Italy and abroad, conquering important markets such as United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, Brazil and 45 other countries, as well as, of course, Italy. Two years before his untimely death, Italo Zingarelli was awarded the prestigious title of Cavaliere del Lavoro for his activity in the world of wine and, above all, for the constant valorization of the Tuscan territory. Subsequently, the estates of Le Tavolelle and Campomaccione were purchased: the first farm is still located in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti, not far from the Macìe. The second, however, is located in the Morellino di Scansano docg, testifying to the inexhaustible desire to promote and develop the Tuscan territory.
