It is a truly particular reality, as it is the only "social" winery in the Montalcino area. It is therefore a real cooperative that was founded in 1970 with the specific need to "give voice" to the dozens and dozens of owners of vineyards in the area, but who do not own a cellar and therefore are not able to vinify the fruit of their annual harvest. . We add that in the municipality of Montalcino, if it is true that 4 types of wine can be produced, namely Moscadello, Sant'Antimo, Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino, it is certainly the latter that arouses all the interest, a highly prized wine , aristocratic and famous throughout the world: therefore the fact that it is a social cooperative that produces it has certainly created some embarrassment in the past. Today, however, the Montalcino winery has 94 contributing members, micro-agricultural companies that look after, in total, 160 hectares of vineyards, on average less than 2 hectares each, located between 120 and 650 meters above sea level. They are small producers who with care and dedication, coordinated by the agronomists of the cooperative, produce grapes of the highest quality for a total of approximately 76,000 bottles of Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva. In 2000, renovation work began on the old structure, which was actually demolished and completely rebuilt. A truly extraordinary, one-of-a-kind architectural solution was designed. The design recalls the Tuscan hills and, for this reason, the winery has become part of the Toscana Wine Architecture circuit which brings together the 14 designer and designer wineries of the region.
