Marco Porello

The Porello company is the example of the classic Roero agricultural company: historically the land owned was mainly dedicated to the cultivation of fruit and the management was strictly in the hands of the family. The wine adventure began in the 1930s with Cesare Porello, a legacy accepted by his sons Riccardo and Ettore who progressively increased the hectares of vineyards, with particular attention to the most historic and most suitable locations. In 1994 Marco, Riccardo's son, took over the management of the winery, drawing on his personal experiences gained in Bordeaux and Tuscany, with the same attention paid to quality as the three previous generations. The current 19 hectares of vineyards extend into the areas of Canale and Vezza d'Alba, where the typical varieties of the area are the protagonists: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis and Favorita. Marco Porello's labels take (French style) the names of the vineyards from which the grapes come, for example, the Carnestri which gives life to the Arneis flagship of the winery, the "Mommiano" and the "Filatura" with vines of around 50 years , where Barbera and "Torretta" reign, where Nebbiolo grapes grow from 30-50 year old plants, giving life to the representative Roero Rosso. The fermentations take place exclusively in steel tanks, to keep alive the authentic breath of the Nebbiolo and the refinements of the reds take place in wooden barrels of different capacities. For Marco Porello the real challenge is to always create wines that are ready, pleasant, drinkable, but at the same time respectful and reflective of the territory in which they are produced.
