San Leonino

The parish of San Leonino in Conio (the set of lands annexed to the church) is mentioned in various historical documents, the first dating back to around the year one thousand. At that time, the structure was part of the diocese of Fiesole, but being on the border between Florence, Siena and Volterra, it was always at the center of disputes to obtain control. Even more so since the farm annexed to the village and located in a strategic area, on a hill bathed by the Staggia torrent and the Gena ditch, enjoyed a very prosperous economic situation, as can be seen from the "tithes", the taxes of the time, paid to the end of the thirteenth century. At the end of all the territorial disputes between Florence and Siena, the church definitively entered the Florentine state and became one of the cornerstones of the Chianti League, as appears from the statute of 1384. In modern times, however, since the 1950s century, various commercial properties followed until the arrival, in 1994, of the Angelini family, current owners of the Bertani Domains group of wineries, of which San Leonino is part. The production philosophy sees the vine and the territory as cornerstones, used to give rise to austerity and elegance and therefore recall the most authentic tradition of Chianti Classico. Sangiovese is pure in the four wines that make up the product range: Chianti Classico Al Limite, Chianti Classico Riserva Monsenese, Gran Selezione Salivolpe and Government all'Uso Toscano di San Leonino. Craftsmanship, passion and research are put at the service of this noble vine in order to produce authentic wines inextricably linked to this land and its history.
