Alsace Willm

While traveling along the Alsace Wine Route , coming down from Strasbourg, you come across the Alsace Willm company and its enchanting vineyards. Founded by the family whose name it bears, at the end of the nineties of the nineteenth century, it achieved great international prestige around 1920 and, just ten years later, it was the first local producer to export its wines to the United States, taking advantage of the end of prohibition; legends even say that some of their bottles were found in the private cellar of the well-known mafia boss Al Capone. The vines of this chateau are found on the slopes of the Grand Cru Kirchberg and are among the best rows of Gewurztraminer in the world; in addition to this noble and aromatic vine, the owned land is mainly cultivated with white grapes and contains some of the most famous varieties such as Muscat, Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. The plants enjoy a fortunate position, both from a climatic point of view, dry and sunny, and for the composition of the soil, of limestone and clay origin, perfect for the cultivation of vines. Although they are mainly known for their wine production, the Willms also have numerous fruit trees around their vineyards , used for the production of exceptional cider and spirits . The wines produced by this chateau reflect the Alsace territory like few others can, giving fresh and clean notes to those who taste them, despite the prevalence of highly aromatic vines, and knowing how to express the prestigious terroir and the centuries-old tradition.
