Perno Castle stands in the heart of the Langhe ; it is truly a place steeped in history and culture, as it was first used as a defensive fort in medieval times and subsequently transformed into a private residence in the 1970s. We even find it as the headquarters of the Giulio Einaudi Publishing House , then the theater of seminars and meetings between the greatest personalities of Italian culture. Perno Castle and its village overlook the rolling hills of the Langhe, entirely occupied by vineyards, we remember a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Since 2012 it has been owned by Gregorio Gitti , who in the initial project envisages the intention of returning it to the ancient splendors of the time, recalling its ancient winemaking vocation: let us not forget that we are in Monforte d'Alba , one of the most suited to viticulture throughout Piedmont and that the Castello estate consists of vineyard plots located in the most interesting crus of Barolo , such as Bussia and Serralunga . The winery currently produces the Langhe Nascetta DOC , which hides a major project to valorise this interesting indigenous vineyard, in danger of extinction, then a Dolcetto d'Alba DOC , a Barbera d'Asti DOCG , a Langhe Nebbiolo DOC and a Barolo DOCG ; these are wines of excellent quality because they are the result of careful and, we would say, almost obsessive processing. In fact, once the manual harvesting operations have been completed, the best bunches are vinified with care and, following the most ancient local traditions, both the Nebbiolo (Langhe doc) and the Barolo are refined in large oak barrels, therefore no use of barriques . . The organoleptic profile of the wines is therefore classic: robust, tannic, austere wines which, however, over the years, take on characteristics of elegance, finesse and complexity, fully developing the characteristics of longevity that are typical of this terroir.
