Cavalieri

We are in the Marche , among splendid hills and lush vineyards, where the tradition of the vine has been handed down for centuries, from generation to generation. And in this splendid region, we have the production of Verdicchio in two distinct and equally suitable areas: the Colli di Jesi and Matelica . Among the historic companies of this last area, Cantina Cavalieri is certainly one of the richest in history, having been active since the early 1900s. Eugenio Benedetti , known as Gegè , has always been a winemaker, is a passionate and profound connoisseur of the potential of Matelica wines which express very particular characteristics, essentially due to the peculiarities of the terroir , including, undoubtedly, the altitude of the vineyards and the richness and variety of unique microclimatic conditions. Gegè is a winemaker "against the current", who distances himself from the well-known industrial productions of the Verdicchio denomination and takes the opposite direction: craftsmanship and naturalness of the product to be able to express the true terroir of Matelica. Gabriele , the son, learns his father's lesson and is, today, at the helm of the winery, determined and against the current, as always; in fact he is carrying out a project that is at least original for the Marche: producing high quality Pinot Noir in a decidedly new territory for this vine. There are currently eight hectares of owned vineyards, distributed between Podere Cavalieri and Podere Fornacione, on the hills of the Marche hinterland. Production has followed the canons of organic farming for about twenty years, to satisfy that desire to enhance and, at the same time, defend a truly unique terroir.
