Domaine Lignier Michelot

The history of Domaine Lignier Michelot begins in the 1960s, but its origins are decidedly older, when the vineyards of the first property, at the beginning of the century, were divided due to inheritance issues. It was Maurice Lignier who began his winemaking business between the two wars, cultivating both vineyards and crops as was the custom then. His son began personally managing the company in the 1960s and, being very passionate about viticulture, he made a radical choice: he abandoned agricultural crops to work only the vineyards and abandoned the local cooperative, to which he gave the grapes, to make wine on his own the grapes of the Domaine. The prevailing practice at the time was to produce the wines, refine them and then sell them to the best Burgundy merchants who took care of the marketing. In 1974, encouraged by his wife Renée Michelot, he purchased and replanted one and a half hectares of vineyard in Morey Saint Denis "En la rue de Vergy", recognized today as one of the best Crus in the area. At the beginning of the 90s, his son Virgile arrived in the company, fresh from his Oenology studies. For 10 years they worked together, trying to develop above all the production and sale of their labels. In 2000, Virgile took the helm of the company alone and, together with his team, proceeded and implemented the research and development of the quality of his wines, with the precise aim of giving a precise identity, as close as possible to the " terroir" of origin. The efforts are targeted, initially in the cellar (selection of the harvested grapes, longer macerations, improvements in refinement) and then in the vineyard (green harvests, soil work, reasoned struggle) to obtain the best possible grapes. A great job that achieved the desired objectives through excellent unanimous opinions from the specialized press.
