Vecchio Magazzino Doganale

This young Calabrian distillery was established in 2016. It is located in the province of Cosenza, in Montalto Uffugo, and was founded by Ivan Trombino, an expert in local plants and grandson of grandfather Egidio, protagonist of the story that inspired the birth of the distillery. In fact, it all stems from a chance discovery by Ivan: he recovers the recipe for a bitter, in a sort of diary, written by his grandfather. These pages tell of a sort of shipwreck, during which the ship on which grandfather Egidio was on board, to return to Calabria, remains at the mercy of the stormy sea. Fortunately, the following day, thanks to the skill of Captain Jefferson, commander of the ship, the crew manages to land on the coast, near an old customs warehouse, inhabited by a local family who does their utmost to welcome the sailors. The Captain, following this particular experience, decides to stay in Calabria to dedicate himself to the production of a bitter, the same one that today bears his name with the signature of the Vecchio Magazzino Doganale, an evocative name given to the new distillery by his nephew Ivan. It should be noted that, recently, Amaro Jefferson was recognized as the best liqueur in the world by the World Liqueur Awards Association. The liqueur is made by Ivan applying his profound knowledge of local plants and spices; there is therefore, upstream, an important selection which is then used in the recipe suggested by the diary: the creation of the liqueur is, therefore, completely artisanal. Another eight labels are present in the production of the Vecchio Magazzino Doganale: in addition to "Jefferson", there is "Roger", "Gil", "Frack", "Madame Milù2 and two "Eredità di Famiglia". All artisanal liqueurs with authentic Calabrian identity and an intense and pure flavour. Their extraordinary qualities have won over not only international juries of the sector, but also a multitude of bartenders expert in the preparation of refined cocktails.
