Lanson

The Maison Lanson was founded way back in 1760 by François Delamotte, a very well-known figure in Champagne at the time and in particular in Reims , the heart of quality production (along with Epernay). At the time he was already a vigneron and owner, together with his wife, of some vineyards in Cumières and Ay ; he therefore decides to set up his own business and found his own Champagne House, one of the first ever. In 1798, Nicolas-Louis Delamotte , the youngest son, took over from his father in the management of the winery and, after being admitted as a knight of the Order of Malta, decided to use the cross as the logo of the Maison, a symbol that still stands today, albeit revisited, in the labels of the Maison's prestigious bottles. And here is the arrival of Jean-Baptiste Lanson in the company, a (long-standing) family friend of the Delamottes and future partner of the winery; progressively his role in the company will begin to be more and more important, such that he then takes over the overall management and even gives it its name: Lanson Père et Fils. Jean-Baptiste has the intuition to understand that foreign markets are very valuable, in addition to the national market, so he develops Great Britain in particular, whose public has always been a great admirer of Champagne. The Maison Lanson became the official supplier of the English Royal Court from 1900 onwards. Later, it will also obtain exclusive supply from the Royal Family of the Principality of Monaco, certainly a great business card that will open new prestigious markets. It should be noted that the most representative Cuvees of Lanson are based on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and that the refinements on the yeasts, typical of the Champenoise Method , are decidedly long and prolonged, this in order to achieve the perfect balance between power and finesse, true trademark of the Maison.
