Dario di Vaira

In the 1950s the Di Vaira family emigrated from Molise in search of agricultural work and landed in the Bolgheri area, then light years away from the glories and splendors it enjoys today, i.e. one of the world "capitals" of quality wine. Only happy intuitions in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century proposed this area of Tuscany as a paradise for the cultivation of vines and the production of wine: at the time there was traditional agriculture, mostly linked to sharecropping. In 2008 Dario inherited the farm from his father Pasqualino and, having just graduated in viticulture and oenology, he chose to focus everything on the excellent production of the territory with Bolgheri DOC wines. A production that comes from an in-depth knowledge of the territory, thus becoming appreciated over time by some of the most important guides in the sector. The cellar is a real farmhouse, because in addition to the vineyards, olive trees, vegetables and fruit are also grown at 0 km, which are promptly served in the restaurant used for guests. Dario di Vaira, as a work (and life) philosophy, has decided to invest in quality, definitively renouncing large quantities. The cultivated varieties are the native Sangiovese and then the great international vines grown in these lands to produce the renowned Supertuscans, therefore Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. As for the white varieties there are Chardonnay, Viogner and Vermentino. The two reds produced have the typical characteristics of the area, therefore a strong, warm and intense body, but also with great finesse. Whites are characterized by a more frank and direct approach. In short, wines that fully respond to the imprinting of the territory and, above all, to Dario's concept, aimed at preserving local traditions, but giving a touch of modernity.
