Poggio Scalette

The history of Poggio Scalette was born around the authentic passion for wine of Vittorio Fiore and his wife Adriana Assjè di Marcorà ; Vittorio, a South Tyrolean with a diploma in oenology from the two most important Italian schools (San Michele all'Adige and Conegliano), began several collaborations as an oenologist with some important wine producers in northern Italy in the early 1970s. In 1979 he arrived in Tuscany for work and in 1991 he managed to realize his lifelong dream, namely to purchase some plots of land on the Ruffoli hill, in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, including ancient, very precious abandoned vineyards. Thus was born the Podere Poggio Scalette winery, today a prestigious winery that has around fifteen hectares of vineyards and produces around 65,000 bottles a year. Today the sons Jurij, Roberto and Alessandro have joined the company and, as the second generation, actively collaborate in the management of the business, now specialized in the production of Sangiovese , and therefore Chianti , being in the heart of one of the most suitable and historic areas of wine production, in Italy and around the world. Among the rows, you can find plants that can reach up to 85 years of age, vines that grow on soils mainly composed of sand and marl and which are meticulously cared for by expert and passionate hands. The inspiring principle of the Fiore family leads back to artisanal workmanship and full respect for tradition, so as to obtain wines that are undoubtedly considered among the best in the Chianti Classico area. The most representative labels are undoubtedly the " Carbonaione ", pure Sangiovese and the " Capogatto ", a blend from international vines, according to the Supertuscan school; wines that are so different, but characterized by a natural finesse and a particular stylistic elegance. And here we recognize the expert hand of the Fiore family.
