The history of the La Massa winery, a recent reality in the Italian wine scene, is truly curious. Everything happens by the will of the entrepreneur Giampaolo Motta (leather sector) who, from a young age, was enchanted by the charm and elegance of Bordeaux wines and for this reason decided that one day he would reproduce them on Tuscan soil. After a short career within the family business, he decides to take the plunge and invest in his dream. He studied at the wine institute in Bordeaux, returned to Italy and began a series of experiences at some well-known companies in Chianti, but then, subsequently, came the big step: he purchased the Azienda Agricola La Massa. We are in the heart of Chianti Classico , but as we said, Giampaolo has in mind to do something else; in fact, after ten years, he left the Chianti Classico Consortium, with a single idea in mind: to produce wines in the "Bordeaux manner". The La Massa agricultural company is in the Chianti Classico area, with soils rich in marl, but the peculiarity is represented by the fact that this type of soil is actually very varied due to its micro components, different from time to time, depending of the area; this makes each Cru peculiar. Also for this reason, the grapes are harvested in different periods, starting from the end of August for the earliest ones such as Merlot , until mid-October for Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese . The cellar is equipped with different types of barrels, especially French oak barriques , which give a strong personality to each wine. Massa has a different concept of production from the rest of the producers of the denomination. For example, the label of the same name " La Massa" is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and aims to symbolize the meeting of Chianti with Bordeaux wines. The company's second wine, the " Giorgio Primo ", is a Bordeaux blend which, in reality, best represents Gianpaolo's skills and contains all his passion in a single bottle, recalling the memory of his grandfather Giorgio, a to which he had promised to dedicate a great label, fully succeeding in his aim.
