The origin of the family is Bulgarian and is lost in the memory of time, when these wool merchants arrived in Abruzzo in 1600, settling in the village of Miglianico where, in 1835, they began to plant the first vineyards,  creating a cellar which, today, is one of the oldest in the region. Giuseppe Ciavolich took over the estate after the war and planted other vineyards in Loreto Aprutino in the 1960s. The land is wild by nature and not tamed at all; it is a land so unknown and yet so unique and so suited to viticulture. The wine business grows and prospers, progressively following rigorous production criteria that aim for quality: it is the winning choice. The turning point was 2004 when, due to her father's health problems, his twenty-six-year-old daughter Chiara had to decide whether to continue the family business or sell. The choice is not easy, but in the end the heart, the love for one's land and for one's family prevails. And the results can be seen very well today: Ciavolich is one of the most admired names in Abruzzo winemaking, producing wines exclusively from its own vineyards. These are 22 hectares cultivated with native vines such as Pecorino, Cococciola, Trebbiano D'Abruzzo, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, all vinified in purity. In 2007 a truly new line of products was born: the "Fosso Cancelli" line which favors spontaneous fermentations, ancestral winemaking methods, starting with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The project plans to create a great aging wine, with a potential of at least 50 years! Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Pecorino and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo have recently been added to Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Fosso cancelli". Even the wine labels want to remember and enhance the history and birthplaces by presenting ancestors, church rose windows and prints by twentieth century artists, donated to his family at the beginning of the century. The perfect fusion between past, present and future.
