Biondi Santi

The roots are even further back, but the prestige of Greppo began in the early 19th century with the great wine culture of the Biondi Santi family and Montalcino, whose territory has an extraordinary viticultural vocation for Sangiovese. The first bottlings, and related awards, date back to 1888 and since then the history and legend of this wonderful wine have been intertwined.

The heart of the Biondi Santi winery coincides with the historic Tenuta Il Greppo: 43 hectares in total, 25 of which are populated by Sangiovese vineyards, where there are very old plants dating back to 1930: the Greppo vineyard is in fact used for the splendid Riserva. We are located at an altitude between 350 and 570 meters, in ideal conditions for the production of Brunello. Long maturation in barrels and extraordinary freshness of taste are the cornerstones of the tradition of the family symbolizing Brunello. In fact, here are born those great wines that have written (and continue to write) the wonderful wine history of Montalcino and the world.

An example of the obsessive care to which these splendid wines are subjected is given by this example: the bottles are all stored without labels because they have to stay in the cellar for decades, therefore the packaging would deteriorate and it is also necessary to adapt to changes in specific regulations. The bottles are labeled only at the time of sale.

The most prestigious certificate of recent years is that of the "Wine Spectator", which included the Brunello di Montalcino Biondi Santi del Greppo Riserva 1955 in the 12 best wines produced of the 20th century in the world, the only Italian one.
