The company history of Vignamato began at the end of the 1940s: Umberto Ceci purchased a small vineyard in Verdicchio and the adjacent farmhouse in S. Paolo di Jesi. After a few years, the land passed to Amato and his wife Maria who started the actual production activity which will be handed down to the present day, involving their son Maurizio and his wife Serenella in this project. In 1992 the farm changed its name, in honor of the person who developed it, namely "Vignamato", i.e. "Amato's vineyard". The Ceci family, today also with the participation and young energies of their children Alessandra, Andrea and Francesco, carries forward the Vignamato brand, gaining new interests from the public and critics, even on international markets. The vineyards are located in the most suitable areas of Verdicchio di Jesi, namely in the municipalities of S. Paolo di Jesi, Staffolo and Cupramontana. Thanks to the clayey and calcareous soils and the air currents that flow up the valleys from the sea, Verdicchio dei Castelli Jesi has found its ideal habitat only in these lands, while its excellent quality/price ratio has ensured its success and growth to the point of making it one of the most loved and consumed white wines by Italians. In this area with the most ancient tradition, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi boasts the nickname "Classico", while with the name "Riserva", which requires a mandatory aging period of at least 18 months, it has obtained the prestigious recognition of DOCG, establishing itself among the great Italian white wines. As a curious note, but also with the aim of carrying on the centuries-old tradition of the area, within the property we also find a sour cherry grove for the production of Vin di Visciola (a flavored drink based on wine and sour cherries) and an olive grove of about one hectare with many centuries-old plants from which excellent extra virgin olive oil is obtained.
