Bricco Maiolica has a simple yet exciting story because it tells the story of a peasant family who for four generations has successfully carried forward the dream and project of their great-grandfather Bernardo, known as “Cumot”. In 1928, in fact, the ancestor managed to start his own business and purchased, after much effort and hard work, 14 Piedmontese days (corresponding to approximately 5 hectares) of land and a farmhouse that stands at the top of the steep hill: his name it is Bricco Maiolica due to the particular value of the earth, we are in the municipality of Diano d'Alba. The vineyards acquired by Bernardo Accomo were almost all Dolcetto. Barbera arrived later, he planted it in a contiguous plot that he purchased in 1930 with the inheritance of his wife, his great-grandmother Luigia, known as “Vigia”. This is where the name "Vigna Vigia" was born, which today is the company's cru for Barbera. The story continues with Bernardo's son, a certain Giuseppe, who satisfied his passion for tannic wines by starting to cultivate Nebbiolo in 1950. Twenty years later, in 1970, came the acquisition of the neighboring lands, with the purchase of “Cascina Valdavì”, by Angelo, the third generation to begin the cultivation of white grape varieties. And here we are in 1985, with the entry into the company of Beppe Accomo, born in 1963, who implements a real corporate turning point by blindly believing in quality wine and, therefore, leading the winery to make drastic choices based on the production of excellent wines. And again, in 2013 the merger of two companies, Bricco Maiolica and Castella, owned by Claudia who shares philosophy of life, tradition and experience with Beppe: thus the “Casa Castella” farmhouse was born. Today the company has 24 hectares of lush vineyards which are cultivated with great attention to nature, with the aim of handing down to posterity an environment that is, if possible, healthier and less exploited than what was found and inherited. The range of wines covers the wide spectrum of local labels, centered on Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo, but with a particular proposal: a Chardonnay coming from the oldest vineyard on the estate, made and aged in wooden barrels and offered only in bottles of Magnum format in a limited edition of 1000 pieces for each harvest, a real gem.
