Podere Il Castellaccio is located in a wonderful corner of Tuscany, in the heart of the Livorno Maremma and precisely in Castagneto Carducci. Here the winemaking vocation of the area was discovered recently, no more than 40 years ago, but here, today, some of the most highly rated labels in the world are produced. It is in this context that the Podere il Castellaccio agricultural company develops and operates. We are in the third generation of the Scappini family, with Alessandro, from a family from Castagneto, who was born and raised in Bolgheri, therefore with DNA very linked to the territory of origin. His adventure as a producer began in 2009, in a way that was certainly original for the area at that time, because instead of cultivating new vineyards with "international" vines that were very fashionable, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot, Syrah, decides to start with the valorization of a 60-year-old family vineyard on the Segalari hill, planted with ancient native varieties: Sangiovese, Pugnitello and Foglia Tonda. Subsequently Alessandro also began to plant the main varieties of the DOC and debuted with his first Bolgheri DOC in the 2015 harvest. With these assumptions, the farm grew, expanding its extension which today is represented by more than fifteen hectares, divided into vineyards, olive groves , forest, and a small part intended for horse breeding, an ancient Bolgheri tradition. There are currently four Podere Il Castellaccio wines and they are exclusively red; the success of the labels is there for all to see: these wines receive interesting critical acclaim everywhere, both nationally and in international guides of the caliber of Wine Spectator and James Suckling. Wines with a strong personality, in which the winemaking tradition of the Bolgheri terroir emerges.
