Georg Mumelter has been leading the historic and prestigious artisanal winery Weingut Griesbauerhof for some years, which has belonged to his family for several generations and boasts over two centuries of experience in the production of quality wines. We are in Alto Adige, precisely on the hills between Santa Maddalena and Santa Giustina, near Bolzano, at an altitude of around 300 meters above sea level, in a splendid natural amphitheatre, surrounded by dense vineyards, where viticulture has always been practiced, with extraordinary results. Georg meticulously follows all the processing phases, from the vineyard to the cellar, with a philosophy that wants to combine tradition and technology, with the aim of producing high-end wines, but strongly linked to the territory. Every winemaker knows that quality starts from the vineyard and therefore, with minimal interventionist and as natural methods as possible, the grapes are manually selected during the harvest, then they move on to the cellar, where each bunch, depending on the variety, follows its own path of winemaking. The estate extends over 4 hectares of land, divided into 3 vineyards with different soils, namely: the Rencio vineyard, where Schiava is grown, an indigenous vine used for St. Magdalener and Lagrein; the Spitz vineyard, cultivated with lagrein and merlot and the Moritzing vineyard, still cultivated with lagrein. The company also owns a very small vineyard of about half a hectare, near Appiano, located at about 500 meters above sea level, on land with morainic soil, where pinot grigio and pinot bianco are grown which, thanks to the particular microclimate, expresses grapes and wines of extraordinary aroma and finesse. Among the particularly original labels, we also find a very curious Merlot in the Rosè version, truly fine and intriguing, worth trying. There is also an excellent line of important reds, the Reserves, worthy exponents of the worthy South Tyrolean tradition.
