In this small hilly area of Upper Piedmont, we are in the province of Vercelli, some of the best wines in Italy have been produced since Roman times for quality, finesse and harmony. We are talking about the Terre del Nebbiolo, an extraordinary vine from whose grapes we obtain wines that lend themselves to ageing, full-bodied and long-lived reds, such as Barolo and Barbaresco in the Langhe, the great wines of Valtellina, but also young wines, which taste marry expertly with traditional local dishes. A truly versatile vine that, since 1908, the Cantina Cooperativa di Gattinara has been cultivating and making wine with great wisdom and mastery, thanks to the commitment of its winegrower and supplier members. It was precisely in that year that this local institution was founded which, over time, has taken on a value and relevance in the customs and social behavior of this truly relevant territory. At the time, it was in fact the third time in Italy that a community had equipped itself with such a cutting-edge winemaking tool. The same choice to combine the efforts of many small winemakers to create a Cooperative has guaranteed its long existence; capable of surviving the great world conflicts, the periods of regression and great difficulties that have occurred in this century, and of always being present on the market, with pride and quality. More than a hundred years have passed, but the Gattinara winery still constitutes an important territorial reality with its 15 hectares of vineyard land and around 40 members. The Gattinara DOC is thus represented in the best labels of the cellar, especially in the Reserves, or in wines (pure Nebbiolo) with a strong personality, elegance, but above all high longevity.
