Poggio al Tufo

The Tommasi family is a prestigious reality in the world of wine, internationally, known for its Valpolicella wines, an absolute excellence. Poggio al Tufo represents the family's first estate outside the borders of Valpolicella Classica, a reality acquired in 1997 with the aim of producing excellent wines in the Tuscan Maremma area. Poggio al Tufo is spread over 3 estates in the most suitable areas of the area: Tenuta Rompicollo in Pitigliano, with 66 hectares of vineyards and woods; Tenuta Doganella, 24 hectares entirely dedicated to organic viticulture, also in Pitigliano and Tenuta Albore in Scansano, with 80 hectares of vineyards. The headquarters and production base are located in Pitigliano, a historic Etruscan site, 350 meters above sea level, which extends with 66 hectares of vineyards on soils of volcanic origin. The company immediately understood that clonal selection would be the only way to produce wines of absolute quality over the years, so all the vineyards were replaced with selected clones of native and international vines, giving life, in time, to extraordinary grapes. Tenuta Rompicollo deals mainly with the hospitality business with a rustic and welcoming farmhouse, built after a careful conservative restoration of the existing structures. Tenuta Albore is proposed as the latest project of Poggio al Tufo, under the name of Morellino di Scansano. An authentic gem that will soon express itself with a Super Tuscan and a quality Morellino di Scansano, created by the family winemaker Giancarlo Tommasi. Doganella, on the other hand, is a splendid 24-hectare estate, also in the municipality of Pitigliano, completely dedicated to the organic cultivation of vineyards, with full respect for the environment and nature. The wines of Tenuta Doganella carry the “Tommasi Naturae” brand, the project dedicated to the sustainable and organic production of quality wines. The wines of Poggio al Tufo fully represent the extraordinary characteristics of the Tuscan Maremma, balanced and elegant wines that faithfully reflect the essence of this land.
