The Tommasi family is a prestigious reality in the world of wine, internationally, known for its Valpolicella wines, an absolute excellence. Surani represents one of the 7 stars of the Tommasi galaxy, kept present in the most suitable places for viticulture on the peninsula. Masseria Surani was born in Manduria, a historic city and cradle of Primitivo wine, where the three provinces of Salento meet between the Ionian Sea and the expanses of vineyards and olive groves of Salento. Here the production of wine dates back to the dawn of time, but the first reliable evidence dates back to the second half of the 1700s, when Don Francesco Filippo Indellicati of Gioia del Colle selected and planted the first monoculture of "Primaticcio", the current Primitivo which is the The grape is the protagonist and takes its name from the precocious character of the variety, in every phase of the season, up to the harvest: and it is in fact one of the first to be harvested in all of Italy. The Murge remains a favorite land of Primitivo, but many experts agree that Primitivo finds its true soul in Manduria. Masseria Surani was born as a typical Apulian sharecropping farm of the early twentieth century. The Masseria remains the historical symbol and today stands alongside the new, modern and efficient structure which represents the operational nucleus of the estate. The history of the Tommasi family in Puglia began at the end of August 2014 with the first harvest of the 55 hectares of vineyards on the farm, in the heart of Manduria DOC. They are managed with organic cultivation, a testimony to the passion and care that Tommasi applies to viticulture, with the need to give future generations a still healthy and vital environment. Surani's philosophy is to produce great wines from the area's native vines, capable of expressing and making known the enormous potential of grapes such as Primitivo, Negroamaro and Fiano, with the utmost respect for natural resources and biodiversity.
