Jermann

The Jermann family has Austro-Slovenian origins, but it was in Friuli (precisely in Villanova di Farra d'Isonzo ) that it all began way back in 1881, when Silvio's great-grandfather, Antonio Jermann , settled permanently. At the beginning of the 1900s, wine production became the family's main activity and, from decade to decade, combined with other agricultural activities, it reaches today. Today the ancient winery is successfully managed by Silvio Jermann , who brought it to success throughout the world thanks to his innovative and, at the time, revolutionary ideas. In 1968, Silvio attended the Conegliano School of Oenology , learning new modern oenological techniques and, in some ways, revolutionary and unconventional for the rigid Italian tradition of the time; great technical baggage that will allow him, later, to make great wines. But, as we said, his ideas clashed with the tradition that wanted, at the time, opulent, fat and heavy wines. He therefore decides to expatriate to Canada and continue to develop his winemaking experience, without forgetting his vision. When he returns to Italy, Friuli Venezia Giulia is experiencing an extraordinary change especially at the hands of a great producer, Mario Schiopetto ; At this point, Silvio finally finds the ideal conditions to realize his long-held dream, that is, making modern wines as he intends. He resumes studying at another extremely important wine school, San Michele all'Adige , encouraged by Schioppetto who sees his enormous potential and talent. In fact, this marks the end of the trend for wines full of color and alcohol, but insignificant in taste. A new era begins for the Jermann winery and for the whole of Friuli Venezia Giulia: elegance, finesse, personality, richer in aromas and flavours, with a more modern taste, exciting wines. And these are still the wines of Silvio Jermann, which after many years, still represent the excellence of Italian enology in the world today.
