We are in the heart of Salento, precisely in Tuglie where, in 1954 Michele Calò founded his winery. Certainly a precursor, because at the time tradition required the sale of the harvested grapes, or the wine produced, to third parties. They were very crude products, very alcoholic, often undrinkable, mostly used to blend the weak wines of northern Italy and France. Michele takes the opposite path: he believes in the potential of his territory and, above all, of the native vines such as Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia Nera di Lecce and Verdeca. This is how unique wines are born, with a strong personality and in harmony with the territory. In fact, thanks to a viticulture devoted to absolute quality, Michele Calò has always stood out as one of the first producers of quality wines in Salento. Today, years later, its wines are sold all over the world; this is also due to his sons Fernando and Giovanni who, with the same passion and talent as their father, currently follow the various activities of the company. At Tenuta Michele Calò, historical varieties have always been the basis of production: grapes with a strong personality, for important and elegant wines, capable of arousing intense emotions even among the most demanding enthusiasts. The company's vineyards, located in the most favorable plots of the municipalities of Tuglie, Alezio, Parabita and Sannicola, are located on land with different characteristics and this gives the wines peculiarities that are expertly highlighted on each label. The white and red "Mjere" represent the best business cards of the winery, even if, as per the best Salento tradition, the Rosés are the real flagships of Calò's production: the Cerasa and the Mjere Rosato, both based on Negroamaro , elegant, fresh, fragrant, the true expression of Salento.
