Sansonina

The name of this winery derives from the farmhouse of the same name not far from Peschiera del Garda which, in turn, owes its name to the famous biblical hero Samson; this ancient property was historically known for having hosted characters with decisive and energetic features, just like the historic judge mentioned above. The great peculiarity of this place is due to its vine, mainly grown in the Lugana area, Trebbiano, but with a small portion dedicated to Merlot, a unique case in the area. Trebbiano di Lugana is the white grape par excellence of the Lombardy-Veneto area, from which most of the wines in the area are produced, but it was Merlot itself, this "red anomaly" that convinced, in the nineties, Carla Prospero to buy the estate. According to the owner herself, the objective of this choice was precisely the creation of a red wine with character, to contrast "all the white" that surrounded it and to demonstrate to everyone that the production of this wine was absolutely not just a business by men. Over time, other vines of French origin were also added such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, as if to demonstrate that the potential of the area was much greater than what one could have believed up to that moment. The entire winemaking process of Sansonina production takes place on site, in what were once just old abandoned rural buildings, but which have now been restored to serve the purpose, developed on multiple levels in such a way as to make use of the strength of gravity to help you work and avoid unnecessary energy waste, preserving nature and the surrounding ecosystem. Precisely from this point of view, Sansonina is a cutting-edge example, thanks to the harmonious combination of new technologies with older and more traditional ones, aimed at preserving and enhancing every qualitative and characteristic aspect of the territory.
