In Portugal, there has always been, and is continually growing, a thriving wine market, characterized above all by the cultivation and vinification of local vines such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cao, Touriga Francesa, Bastardo and Tinta Roriz, also known as Tempranillo. These eggs are mainly used for the production of the Portuguese national wine, we are talking about Port, of course. One of the most historic and representative wineries is Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo which, moreover, is located in one of the most historic and suitable areas, namely the Douro Valley. The company was founded way back in 1756 and, after various changes of ownership, was purchased in 1999 by the Amorim family, who extensively renovated and expanded it, creating a modern production reality, but always linked to solid local traditions. The total extension of the vineyards is equal to 85 hectares, while the overall property is 120. The vineyard part is cultivated using the famous local terraces that distinguish the valley, also known as "patamares". 8 labels represent the portfolio of wines from this beautiful estate which also offers a wide range of accommodation, offering a high-level relais set in this splendid valley.
