The Badia a Coltibuono company has a centuries-old history to tell: it was born at the beginning of the year 1000 as a monastery, at the hands of the Vallombrosian monks and, over the centuries, it came into the hands of Piero Stucchi Prinetti who transformed it into an agricultural company, in the second post-war; it is now led by his children, the sixth generation of the family. It is certainly among the most representative of the Chianti Classico, it is based in Monti Chianti, in the extreme northern edge of the Gaiole sub-area. Badia a Coltibuono literally means "abbey of the good harvest".
Centuries of transformation have led the company to now reach the size of 800 hectares, of which 53 are under vineyards. The conversion to the organic regime, dating back to 1994, represented an absolute novelty for the production of Chianti and a courageous and pioneering choice for the time. The vineyards are managed with a natural approach which aims, through the use of only natural preparations, to reduce the use of synthetic chemicals to a minimum, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The vineyards themselves, supported with chestnut poles, are organically nourished through controlled grassing and organic fertilizers. The finesse and elegance of the wines of this company is truly the stylistic feature that distinguishes the entire production and recalls the most classic and refined characteristics of Chianti, as a wine. The quality standards have always been very high and the quality of the products is continuously favored by technological updates which place the Badia a Coltibuono labels at the top of the entire Chianti production. Delicate and surprising aromas, exceptional drinkability are just some of the characteristics of the surprising interpretations of Chianti that bear the name of Badia a Coltibuono, a historic and modern winery at the same time.
