…In all stories there is always a turning point, for Tenuta San Leonardo it was at the end of the 60s, when Marquis Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga (1895-1974), farmer and passionate winemaker, left the task of give a new face to the family property. 1982 was the year of the zero harvest, the one that produced San Leonardo as we know it today. The first barriques arrived in the company and in the cellar the work was no longer based on the grapes defined in the vineyard, but on the blending of the wines decided after months of maturation in wood and, starting from that year, San Leonardo established itself with decision among the reference names in Italian enology. All this was the result of Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga's determined belief that his land had such particular characteristics that it could follow the path of viticultural excellence. It includes 300 hectares of land of which 30 are planted with vineyards, home to Cabernet, Carmenère, Merlot, Petit Vedot, Sauvignon and Riesling. Recently all the land on the estate has been converted to organic farming , to preserve the precious ecosystem and to allow nature to express itself at its best: "The land is the soul of our profession" Carlo Guerrieri likes to repeat.
