The Vallone family is of Sicilian origins and to tell the thousand vicissitudes that brought them to Tuscany, precisely to Montalcino, to produce Brunello today... it would really take an entire book. The fact is that the progenitor of the saga is called Toto, father of Pasquale, current owner of Terre Nere. He moved to Tuscany with his family and worked in agriculture, so his son Pasquale immediately breathed the scent of the land, even if it did not represent his ambition, so much so that he made a career in a bank. He landed in Montalcino for work where, in 1996, he was offered the purchase of an uncultivated 15-hectare farm which he couldn't miss. Thus began an activity which, for the first few years, was absolutely amateur, but then began to take hold, the hectares of vineyards would become 10 in a short time. It must also be said that we are in the period of the "boom" of Brunello di Montalcino and this certainly helps. Furthermore, Pasquale finds a valid support in his brother Gaetano who becomes a valid cellar master. The first Brunello di Montalcino Terre Nere was released in 2002. The work philosophy is clearly artisanal: the grapes are carefully selected manually in the vineyard, the fermentation takes place spontaneously in steel vats with indigenous yeasts, with analytical and tasting controls. Long macerations with the skins give life to "the song of the vats"... Large Slavonian oak barrels enclose the wines for long refinements, a few months for the Rosso di Montalcino and up to 48 months for the Brunello Riserva, conserving and preserving the identity of a unique territory. For this reason, biodiversity is promoted, using techniques such as the protection of beneficial insects, mulching, green manure, fertilization with manure and the use of natural products. This is why Terre nere is a winery with organic certification, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Fun and passion remain the keys to understanding this small artisanal production of the highest quality, aimed at valorising the territory and traditions, with the utmost respect for the environmental impact.
